The mission of the Upper Peninsula Association of Rural Health Services is to provide high quality primary health care with respect and compassion to all in need.

Our Vision:

Our vision for the UP Association of Rural Health Services is to be a major health provider in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan which offers a coordinated and expanded system of primary care including medical, oral health, nutrition, vision, preventive care, mental health and pharmacy.

CATHERINE HARRIS, M.D.
Dr. Catherine Harris attended medical school at Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska, where she received her M.D. degree in 1979. She completed three years of residency training at the Creighton University Family Practice Residency Program from 1979-1982. She first received Board Certification in Family Practice at that time.

Following completion of her training, Dr. Harris was employed as a staff physician at the Family Health Center in Grant, Michigan. From 1985-1998 she worked at the Westside Family Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

She first came to the Upper Peninsula in 1998 and was employed by the Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry. In October, 2000 she returned down state and worked with the Southwest Medical Clinic in Niles and Bridgeman, Michigan.

Dr. Harris worked as a "locum tenens" physician in the Upper Peninsula and throughout the Midwest followed by three years as a staff physician at the Ewen Medical-Dental Center. She is now retired and working as needed at UPARHS clinics.   

 

 

DOUGLAS JON HENKE, M.D.
Dr. Henke attended medical school at the University of Iowa, College of Medicine in Iowa City, IA where he received his M.D. degree in 1982. He spent a year in Family Practice Internship at Broadlawns Medical Center, Des Moines, IA. He was then a Resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology in West Virginia University Hospitals, Morgantown, WV from 1983 to 1986.

From 1986 to 1989 Dr. Henke worked for the Upper Peninsula Association of Rural Health Services Obstetrician-Gynecologist at the NMHC in Spalding in fulfillment of a National Health Service Corps obligation. Subsequently he has had his own practice in the Iron Mountain, MI area and is now in Primary Care as Henke-Ryan Physician and Partner. His practice is limited to Gynecology & Gynecological Surgery.

Dr. Henke assists as a Primary Care Physician for UPARHS as needed.

 

 

J.A. McERLEAN, M.D.
Dr. McErlean attended medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, where he received his M.D. degree in 1980. He spent a year of rotating internship at Evanston Hospital in Evanston, IL.

He served as a Commissioned Officer (Lt-03) for US Public Health Service, Indian Health Service in San Carlos, AZ for three years. Before coming to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan he served as Center Medical Director for Concentra Medical Centers in Livonia, MI. He primarily worked in solo practice as a general surgeon. He has worked as a "locum tenens" physician in emergency and urgent care.

Dr. McErlean is now employed by the UP Association of Rural Health Services and working as a Primary Care Physician at the Northern Menominee Health Center South in Menominee.


 

DAVID PENCIKOWSKI, FNP

Nurse Practitioner David Pencikowski received his Master’s degree as a nurse practitioner from the University of Wisconsin in 2006. Prior to that he earned his Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Marion College in Fond Du Lac, Wis., and his associate degree from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater, Wis.

Prior to joining the staff of the Northern Menominee Health Center South in 2010, he treated patients at Prevea Healthcare, Bellin Health Care, both in Green Bay, Wis., and at Aspirus Healthcare in Wausau, Wis.

Prior to earning his nurse practitioner certification, the Milwaukee, Wis., native worked for ten years as a registered nurse. As such he provided care for patients at the Aurora Healthcare St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee.

Nurse Practitioner Pencikowski is employed by the U.P. Association of Rural Health Services, Inc., which owns and operates the Northern Menominee Health Center South.    

 

 

ALEAH SISITKI, PA
Physician Assistant Aleah Sisitki received her Master’s Degree in physician assistant studies from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 2009. Prior to that she earned a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree, with a concentration in biology and a minor in psychology, from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa.

Along with classroom work, Physician Assistant Sisitki’s training included a wide variety of clinical rotations (i.e. pediatrics, burn unit, internal medicine, etc.) at health care facilities located in four states: Florida, Indiana, Montana and Pennsylvania.

Physician Assistant Sisitki is now employed by the U.P. Association of Rural Health Services and provides care to patients at the Northern Menominee Health Center in Spalding.
